Overton Clinic Gets New Name, New Location - Moapa Valley ...

Dr. Doug Giles and Assistant/Aid Michele Hernandez work together to take care of patients at FIT Physical Therapy clinic in Overton.

FIT Physical Therapy is showing off its new Overton location this week and the whole community is invited. A grand opening open house event will be held on Thursday, November 15 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at 475 N. Moapa Valley Blvd in Overton in the old ?Water Hole? location.

Though the practice has a new name, it is not a new comer to the Moapa Valley community. Under its former name of Overton Physical Therapy, the practice was started back in 2006 by Darren Marchant. It has operated from a smaller space in the same building as the Overton Medical Care and has functioned as the Overton branch of Virgin Valley Physical Therapy, also founded by Marchant.

?I originally established an office here because there was no physical therapy service in the community,? Marchant said in a recent interview. ?People in this valley had to travel to Mesquite, or even further into Las Vegas or St. George, to receive therapy. When a person has an injury that kind of travel can be a real hardship.?

In recent months, Marchant and his partners have moved the Mesquite clinic to a new location and renamed the practice FIT Physical Therapy. When an opportunity came up last summer to move the Overton facility to a larger space they took it. The new office has about 3,000 sq ft with two private treatment rooms and plenty of open space for doing exercises for patients, Marchant said. The new location also now has a whole lineup of new equipment.

Marchant says that the new name is more in keeping with the mission of the practice.

?We thought that name better reflected what we are all about,? Marchant said. ?That is getting people better from their injuries and also helping people improve their physical condition.?

Dr. Doug Giles, who treats people at the Overton facility is focused on those goals. Giles comes in to the clinic three days a week to see patients. He has been practicing at the Overton facility for the past three years.

Giles says that he does a little bit of everything in the clinic. He works with young children in programs for building coordination and motor skills. He also works with high school athletes, firefighters and other professionals who have received work-related injuries, and seniors who come in with a variety of ailments.

Logandale resident Pam Proctor is a regular customer at the clinic. She explained that she began coming in after experiencing a neck problem. She said that the FIT staff has worked wonders for her.

?They have done a lot of innovative things with my treatment, using their equipment in different ways,? Proctor said. ?It has been great.?

Margie Naquin of Moapa started coming to FIT after she had shoulder surgery. She said shen she started she could not even move her shoulder.

?Now I have no problems at all,? she said as she demonstrates rotating her shoulder above her head. ?I?ve never seen anything like what they?ve done for me.?

Marchant says that the clinic is also looking to be involved more in the community?s general health. The larger facility allows the capacity to offer an open gym facility to residents looking for a guided fitness plan. For people who are seeking a higher level of fitness, the clinic will be offering a personal training regimen.

?We are unfortunately not set up to be able to offer a full gym like the kind where people come in and work out on the equipment unsupervised whenever they want,? Marchant said. ?But for people who would like a personalized fitness program, where they can sit down with a trainer and discuss health goals and set up a custom plan to achieve those goals, we can do that.?

FIT Physical Therapy is open all day Tuesdays-Thursdays and afternoons Mondays. Home health visits are also available. The clinic accepts all insurance plans. For more information call 397-6700.
