How to get into a teaching career? | Education Reference

Question by XOXO: How to get into a teaching career?
Im in year 11 and making my decisions for A-level and career options and things like that.
I?m interested in a job in teaching either Art, or teaching in a primary school. I just wanted to know which sort of Degrees and A-levels would help me get onto this sort of path.
I?m applying for experience at a local primary school, and will probably do something similar in extra curriculum in year 12 (sixth form).
Any help is welcomed =)
thankss xx

In California, if you wanted to be a teacher, you first have to get a bachelors degree in, well, anything really. If you were going for an elementary position, I think liberal arts would be recommended, but if you wanted to be an art teacher, then you might want to major in art. I would say, if this is what you want to do, to major in LA and get a minor in art, which should be relatively easy to do. After you finish your four years, you then have to take a fifth year in which you either intern or student teach. Other states simply have you major in education. At some point, you have to take two tests, one is state mandated, The California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) and I?m sure other states have their equivalent, and the national one, it used to be called the National Teachers Exam (NTE) but I?m not sure what its called now. Once you?ve done all that, all that?s left is to find a place that will hire you. So, one other thing I would recommend is reading up on interview techniques, what kinds of questions should you expect to get and how to answer them.
